Mongabay.com is the sole work of Rhett Ayers Butler [Learn more about the author].

The content for the tropical fish section of mongabay.com originated as a manuscript that was developed from 1992-1994. Tropical Freshwater Aquarium Fish (TFAF) was sold to a major aquarium book publisher in 1995. Shortly after the sale, the publisher merged with another firm and the TFAF project was shelved indefinitely. After 7 years the rights reverted back to me so in 2002 I posted an early version of the content.

I have traveled extensively in the tropics and also done work on tropical rainforests.
